Heat Pumps for Radiators (55°C): What Changes?

Radiator retrofits can work very well with the right heat pump and a realistic temperature strategy. The trick is not pretending physics is optional.

Key idea

Higher water temperatures usually reduce efficiency. If the system truly needs 55°C regularly, choose a series designed for it and validate output at low ambient.

Practical checklist

  • Measure/estimate the building load (not “same as old boiler”).
  • Confirm emitter capacity at lower water temperatures where possible.
  • Check defrost behavior and minimum ambient limits for your region.
